Most banks have no digital assets products live for business clients yet. The infrastructure exists, and so do the providers. What is missing are digital asset use cases that business clients can actually use, inside the bank’s own channel.
This article walks through the five use case families, what each one does and the value it gives the client, where banks usually start, how a use case goes live, and the six questions to answer before choosing the first one.
In brief
Fiat is no longer the only money business clients hold. Digital asset use cases for business clients fall into five families: See / Store, Move, Optimise, Convert and Enter / Exit. Launch one use case first, on the same composable base. Each next use case starts from what is already live in your channel.
A multi-money world has arrived
Stablecoins, tokenised deposits and tokenised money market funds have joined fiat in the money mix. Citi expects total stablecoin issuance to reach $1.9 trillion in its base case and $4.0 trillion in its bull case by 2030, according to the Citi Institute report Stablecoins 2030 (September 2025). The same report suggests bank tokens, such as tokenised deposits, could see higher turnover than stablecoins by 2030.
For business banks, this is a channel question more than a technology question. A bank that orchestrates fiat alone solves half the equation. Meanwhile, non-bank fintechs and neobanks are already capturing the business client relationship on digital assets.
We looked at where stablecoins may go next in The Evolution of Stablecoins in Business Banking: 2030 Outlook. This article is about what banks can put in front of business clients now.
Why digital asset use cases stall at banks
The constraint is not technology. Onboarding a provider such as Fireblocks, BVNK or Circle is straightforward; converting that infrastructure into use cases clients actually use is what stalls progress.
Most core banking systems are not yet ready for digital assets, stablecoins or tokenised deposits. The playbook estimates a three to five year transition before native core support is widespread. Technology providers cover the digital asset stack end to end, but none of them connect that stack to core banking systems and business banking portals.
Speed is the other gap. Fintechs release every 2 to 4 weeks; traditional banks take 4 to 6 months. A bank that waits for its core to catch up leaves that time to someone else.
The five digital asset use case families
TreasurUp’s digital asset use cases span the full liquidity lifecycle, from seeing money to moving, optimising and converting it, plus the entry and exit points between fiat and digital assets. All white-labelled inside your business banking channel.
| Family | Use case | What it does | Client value |
| See / Store | Wallet visibility | Digital asset wallet balances shown alongside traditional fiat account balances. | One consolidated view of liquidity, in fiat and digital assets. |
| Move | Cross-border and intra-group liquidity | Sweeping, funding and target balancing, including 24/7 on-chain intra-group cash sweeping. | Movement across entities, currencies and time zones, 24/7. No more trapped cash. |
| Optimise | Excess liquidity optimisation | Access to tokenised money market funds and excess cash solutions. | Idle cash earns yield. |
| Convert | Conversion services | Stablecoin-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-fiat conversion. | Instantaneous movement between money types. |
| Enter / Exit | On-ramp and off-ramp | Entry and exit points between fiat and digital assets. | Simple, compliant access to the digital asset economy. |
See / Store: wallet visibility
Digital asset wallet balances shown alongside traditional fiat account balances, with custody inside or outside the bank. The client gets one consolidated view of liquidity, in fiat and digital assets. Nothing moves in this use case: the client simply sees fiat and digital positions in one place, in the portal they already use.
Move: cross-border and intra-group liquidity
Sweeping, funding and target balancing, including 24/7 on-chain intra-group cash sweeping. The result for the client is movement across entities, currencies and time zones, 24/7. No more trapped cash. On the company side, the cross-border payments and liquidity agent prepares sweeps, funding and conversions across fiat and digital money: it proposes, routes and flags; the owner approves.
Optimise: excess liquidity optimisation
Access to money market funds and tokenised money market funds, so idle cash earns yield without leaving the bank. This is familiar ground for TreasurUp, which won Best Excess Liquidity Solution in the 2024 Global Finance Innovations Award.
Convert: conversion services
Stablecoin-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-fiat conversion, for instantaneous movement between money types. For the bank, conversion, custody and liquidity orchestration services create new, chargeable offerings and extend the ones you already run.
Enter / Exit: on-ramp and off-ramp
Simple, compliant entry and exit points between fiat and digital assets. This is where the bank’s standing counts: your bank can offer businesses a level of trust and regulatory standing that most digital asset newcomers cannot match.
Launch one use case first: where digital asset use cases start
Banks do not need to launch all five families at once. Launch one use case first, on the same composable base. Each next use case starts from what is already live in your channel.

Launch one use case first. Wallet visibility and on-ramp and off-ramp are marked as the common start; the other three families extend from there.
Wallet visibility or on-ramp/off-ramp are common starting points. Because the digital assets solution runs on the same composable services as TreasurUp’s FX, liquidity and cross-border payments solutions, wallet balances, conversions and sweeps appear in the same channel clients already use for fiat.
From provider to live use case, in four steps
TreasurUp is the orchestration layer that connects custody, exchange and issuance providers to your core banking systems. A first use case goes live in four steps.
1. Connect: the integration layer connects chosen providers and core banking systems through the TreasurUp connection centre over MCP.
2. Configure: business rules and compliance logic in the orchestration layer define how and when money is allowed to move, per entity, currency and money type.
3. Embed: the client-facing layer goes into the business banking portal and APIs, with a bank-side admin and operations portal for staff.
4. Launch: go live with one use case first, then extend across the five families on the same orchestration layer.
An approval gate sits between proposal and execution. Nothing financial, regulatory or accounting-related is executed autonomously, in fiat or in digital assets.
TreasurUp has been building for banks, and only banks, since 2016, with 9+ European banks live, including Nordea, Rabobank, KBC, SEB, Handelsbanken, LBBW and OLB. Banks rate working with TreasurUp 8.9 out of 10 (TreasurUp client survey, 2025), with over 99.95% uptime and ISO 27001 certification.
Six questions before you choose your first digital asset use case
These questions come from the playbook’s readiness check for your bank. The answers decide which family to launch first.
1. Which of the five use case families holds the sharpest client pain today?
2. Have you signed or shortlisted a custody, exchange or issuance provider?
3. Which core banking systems, order managers and payments hubs must the layer talk to?
4. Would digital assets sit inside your business banking channels, or beside them in a separate widget?
5. Who owns stablecoins and tokenised deposits day to day once the service is live?
6. Which parts do you intend to deliver yourselves, and which would you rather take from a partner?
Frequently asked questions
Which digital asset use cases does TreasurUp support today?
Five families: cross-border and intra-group liquidity (including 24/7 on-chain sweeping); excess liquidity optimisation via money market funds and tokenised MMFs; wallet visibility alongside fiat account data; stablecoin-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-fiat conversion; and on-ramp/off-ramp between fiat and digital assets.
Do our clients need a separate app or wallet interface?
No. Every use case runs inside the channels clients already trust: the business banking portal, APIs, and mobile, under your brand. Wallet balances appear next to fiat accounts; staff manage it all through a bank-side admin and operations portal.
Does TreasurUp replace our custody or exchange provider?
No. TreasurUp connects to providers such as Fireblocks, BVNK or Circle rather than replacing them. It is the orchestration layer between that infrastructure and core banking systems and client channels. Because TreasurUp is pre-connected to multiple providers, you avoid single-vendor lock-in.
Why not build this ourselves, or connect a provider directly?
Because the infrastructure is not the hard part. Connecting it to core banking systems and the business banking portal in a compliant, bank-branded way is what turns infrastructure into a use case clients actually adopt, which is the specific gap TreasurUp closes.
How long does it take to go live with a first use case?
Significantly less than an in-house build, since the orchestration engine, compliance logic and provider integrations already exist. 3 to 9 months to live, against 48 to 60 months for comparable in-house builds.
